The Padmanabhaswamy Temple in Thiruvananthapuram, which has assets worth about Rs one lakh crore, is going through a severe financial crisis these days. The temple has been closed since March 25 due to a lockdown. Rs 5 to 7 crore donated every month now comes in thousands. The cost of the temple is Rs 1.50 crore. The management is now considering seeking help from the government and the Travancore Raj family. The income expenditure of the staff and priests is about one crore rupees per month.

The decision to open the temple will be taken only after June 30. Proposals to come out of the economic crisis will be discussed at the temple administration committee meeting in the last week of June. Fighting the economic crisis is the biggest challenge facing the temple committee at the moment. The earth crisis against the temple, which closed in the last days of March, began in April. Up to Rs 7 lakh was donated to the temple at that time. While the current donation is not exactly the same.

20% reduction in salary instead of increment: -
The increment takes place in April but the salaries of more than 150 priests of the Padmanabhaswamy temple have been reduced by 20 per cent. However, the temple administrator V. A small portion of the salary has been withheld, according to Ratheson. This portion will be given to the priests when the situation becomes normal. Doing so will allow the temple to cover its own expenses by July. Even after the temple opens in July, the number of devotees will remain limited.

5 lakh from trust and 25 lakh from government grant: -
The temple receives Rs 5 lakh a year from its own trust, where it receives a government grant of about Rs 25 lakh. The temple committee is also considering increasing the amount. It is being demanded to increase the government grant from Rs 25 lakh to Rs 2 crore per annum.

Padmanabhaswamy Temple is one of the temples mentioned in more than one scripture. Padmanabha temple is mentioned in 8 Puranas including Brahmapuran, Padmapuran, Varahpuran and Mahabharata. The temple is more than 5000 years old.

Slave of the royal family Padmanabha: -

The temple was rebuilt by the royal family of Travancore in the 16th century. In the 17th century, King Martand Varma declared himself a slave of Padmanabhaswamy. Since then, Padmanabh Das has been associated with the names of men and Padmanabh Sevika with the names of women. Due to this, the temple committee hopes that the royal family will help in this crisis.
